Abstract

This introduction to the memoir, Growing Up French/ A Maine Franco-American Memoir, is an overview of industrialization in Lewiston, Maine, and of Franco participation. It prepares a story set between 1947 and 1960 of the author's childhood and focuses on history, acculturation and assimilation of his family and of Franco-America.
