Maine Open Journals

Andean Past is a peer-reviewed, open-access, diamond route, numbered publication series dedicated to research in the archaeology and ethnohistory of western South America. However, short research reports, obituaries, and autobiographies are subject to editorial review only. Although Andean Past focuses on pre-Columbian times, it includes articles on the Colonial Period that enhance understanding of indigenous cultures before 1492. Andean Past encourages data-based submissions, contributions to the history of Andean archaeology, papers grounded in environmental archaeology, fresh interpretations supported by accompanying data, interim and field reports, and the publication of short documents.

The Journal of Archaeology and Education is a peer-reviewed, open-access journal dedicated to disseminating research and sharing practices in archaeological education.

Maine History is the only periodical devoted to scholarship on the history of Maine, and is a peer-reviewed publication. It is published twice a year, in January and July, by the Maine Historical Society in cooperation with the Department of History at the University of Maine. A subscription to Maine History is one of the benefits of membership in MHS.The last three years of issues are not available here but as new issues are published, the back issues are added to this site.

Volume I, Number 1, of the MHS Quarterly Newsletter appeared in June 1961. The following January the Society announced that future issues would appear quarterly in February, May, August, and November. For the next eight years the society maintained that schedule. The content consisted of Society news, lists of new members, news of other historical societies, recent writings on Maine history in books, periodicals, and newspapers; recent additions to the Society's library; and suggested readings in Maine history. Book reviews appeared from time to time.

In summer 1969 the Newsletter became a scholarly journal. The first issue of the new journal appeared as Maine Historical Society Newsletter, Volume 9, Number 1. Four years later the journal's name was changed to Maine Historical Society Quarterly, and its name changed once more in 1994 to Maine History.

Maine Policy Review publishes timely, independent, peer-reviewed analysis of public policy issues relevant to the state of Maine. The journal is published twice a year by the Margaret Chase Smith Policy Center at the University of Maine and the Margaret Chase Smith Foundation. The material published within does not necessarily reflect the views of the Margaret Chase Smith Policy Center nor of the Margaret Chase Smith Foundation.

The New England Journal of Political Science is published by the New England Political Science Association. Beginning in 2022, the journal is published annually in the Fall. Prior to 2022, the journal published two issues per year. The New England Journal of Political Science aims to publish high quality original research in all four of the major subfields of political science (American politics, comparative politics, international relations, and political theory), along with brief reports on the politics of the six New England states. Some issues may contain additional material such as book reviews.

Résonance is an editor-reviewed, online literary journal whose goal is to encourage, showcase, and disseminate creative works by and/or about the Franco-American communities of the United States.
